Between September 23rd to December 21st is my favorite season of the year. During this season the temperature goes down. People trade in shorts and tank tops for turtlenecks and sweaters. Dunkin Donuts and Starbucks make pumpkin spice available for those who consume coffee. I happen to be born in this season (November 2,1994). Leafs on the trees display different colors and often fall on the ground. Fall is what most people commonly call this season. I simply call it Autumn.
Ideas and characters are my currency. Writers are the unwanted voices that don't get missed until their gone. The life of a writer is one of constant struggle and evolving. All the greats have gone through this, now it's my turn. An old English professor warned me and a few classmates about a life that I too would choose. Eight years later I have no regrets. Critics and naysayers have thought they have won some battles. But in the end once the war is over, I know the reward will be great.
Dating and courtship are two words that are voids in my life. My dream girl was a light-skinned Nia Long. Instead, I'm surrounded by Stallions and Lizzo's. A women's attraction should go beyond her physical attributes, but the words she speaks. Natural beauty and class have been replaced with promiscuity and insecurities. Time is ticking fast, and the window is about to close shut. Looking down the aisle of my psyche I don't see a bride and a groom. There's nothing but sand between my toes, water hitting my thighs, and the sun touching my face.
Writing each sentence makes me feel as though I'm at the gym. Every muscle is being used (in one way or the other). There are territories I want to enter. There places I want to go. There are things I want to do. There are experiences I want to have. Necessary steps have to be taken. One person has to make those steps and it's me.
Compliments I accept like grains of salt. The right amount makes your dish suitable for digestion. For this reason, I prefer the thumbs up and heart emoji's on Facebook. The reason why I became a writer was because I discovered how powerful words are and the impact they have on our existence. Extraordinary I am not. I am nothing more than a servant of the Lord who is using the gifts He gave me to uplift my fellow brothers and sisters around the world. We should all feel free to share our stories with each other no matter how much light or darkness is in our lives. I encourage anyone who reads this to enjoy life as it is and thank God for the things you have.
