On February 28, 2023, a light drizzle hits the ground and not a soul is walking the streets. The clock had just hit 10:00, but the night was still young. Officer Louis Olander along with eleven other officers are wearing civilian attire with bulletproof vest underneath. It was on that night back in January that Olander can't get out of his head. While him and his wife were sleeping in bed Olander's cell phone goes off. Deep in his sleep, Olander leaps out of bed. "Hello? Who is this?," said Olander. "Officer Olander I'm going to need your help", said the voice over the phone. "Who am I speaking too?", said Olander. "The name is Mazzola. I'm in charge of the 47th Precinct", said Mazzola. "Oh yes, what can I do for you", said Olander. "I need you to meet me at Seton Falls Park understood?," said Mazzola. "Yes Captain," said Olander. Arriving at Seton Falls Park, Olander parked his car two blocks away from the playground. Entering the playground Olander was met face to face with Mazzola. Mazzola led the way to a body covered in a white sheet. Before putting on a pair of gloves, Mazzola looks at the two officers securing nearby. Being given a commandment by Mazzola the officers leave until called back. Pulling the sheet back was the decapitated body of Daniel 'Scoop" Jenkins. Besides his head being stitched back and some of his fingers and toes missing the scene would make any sane mind lose sanity. From the second Mazzola pulled back the sheet Olander's mind went back to his days serving in the U.S. Army in Afghanistan. Starving children to suicide bombers, Olander has seen it all. Truth be told, that by the time Olander completed his first full year with the NYPD he was used to brothers in blue being here one minute and gone the next. "Still thinking about Scoop huh?," said Officer Chuck Foley. "Yeah, you can say that," said Olander. "Ain't it so? We all have shit on our minds that plagues us," said Chuck. Olander nods his head in agreement. "Let's have a drink once this is over", said Chuck. That's what Olander and others like about Chuck, he was the guy that always saw the light beyond any dark tunnel. Putting on their helmets and taking out their firearms the special unit enters into the staircase of 1175 East 229th Street. Three officers surround apartment 2D. Officer #1 looks to his left. Officer #2 looks back at him. Officer #1 looks to his right. Officer # 3 looks back at him. All three officers are in agreement and are ready to move into action. Officer #1 knocks on the door. "Who dat", said the voice behind the door. "The police', said Officer #1. Without given anyone outside of the apartment time to think three bullets hit Officer #1. A bullet to the torso and two bullets to the chest kills him instantly. Officer #2 and officer #3 kick in the door and are met with heavy fire. The man that shot through the door laid on the floor lifeless with bullets in his chest. Both officers suffered light injuries until both were struck down by a man with an Uzi. Three more officers made their way into the apartment to seek retribution for their fallen brothers. The numbers were even on both sides. When things looked like they were under control footsteps are heard coming up and down the staircase. Chuck faced the set of stairs going up and Olander faced the set of stairs going down. It was showtime from that point on. Headshots, torso penetrated, and chest were caved in. Between Olander and Chuck twenty bodies were gunned down. "Yeah, we did that shit," said Chuck. Hugging Olander, Chuck gets too comfortable and loses his focus. From the back of Chuck's neck Olander see's an armed man taking aim at them both. "Watch out," yells Olander. The bullets from the Uzi hits Chuck in his back, killing him on the spot. Olander's combat senses start to tinkle as he dodges out of range to hide behind the nearest set of stairs. Hearing the reloading of the firearm, Olander springs into action. Picking up Chuck's gun, Olander maneuvers to take out the target with two bullets to the head. "Olander, are you okay?," said one of the remaining officers. "Yeah, I'm okay," said Olander still shaken up. The fellow officer helps Olander up and they both head to apartment 2D. Inside of the apartment there was blood everywhere from the floor to the walls. Only two members of the Righteous Devils remained and were handcuffed. A half a million dollars in guns and drugs were confiscated. The remaining two members of the RD's were brought to the 47th Precinct for fingerprints. News12 and other media outlets rushed to the 47th Precinct to interview Mazzola. In front of the precinct, Olander and his fellow brothers in blue pour one out for Chuck and the others who lost their lives while on duty. There has been some progress made for Operation Family Ties, but the war has just begun.
Gabriel is on the roof of 1155 229 Drive South. Not only is this the building which he calls home, but a place where he can see the activities of everyday people. Through the scope of his newly purchased Arctic Warfare Magnum sniper rifle, Gabriel has gained ambitions for himself. Two brothers out of Venezuela who Michael and Gabriel know are to thank for the weapon of mass destruction that Gabriel wields. We'll just call them Miguel and Diego. Cars of all kinds drive through the South Drive. After an hour passed Gabriel patience started to run thin. Just before his hope were running out, Gabriel spots a car that displays colors that dispatches his senses. A white Lincoln Continental with red interior passes through the South Drive. Behind the wheel was a heavy-set gentleman. He was bald and had an average paper bag brown complexion. He also wore a beard and weighed between 250lbs-280lbs. His estimated height could've been between 6ft,0in-6ft,5in. The age of this gentleman could've been between 45-50 years old. The gentlemen's attire was a white shirt, powdered white jeans, red and white Air Force One's, topped offed with a red bandana for a facemask. Humming to himself Baa Baa Black Sheep, Gabriel tightens the silencer on his rifle. As he continues humming the Lincoln Continental is moving closer. Finally, the vehicle is in range and suddenly Gabriel's mind goes blank. Children singing Baa Baa Black Sheep is the only thing that flooded Gabriel's mind. Although the vehicle had stopped and was full of holes what seemed like five shots turned out to be thirty. Stepping away from the rifle, Gabriel collects himself and takes a breather. In stride, Gabriel leaves his newly purchased rifle and heads back to his apartment. A special recording device was placed on top of the door in which Gabriel entered and exited the roof. Whether Gabriel knew it or not is a mystery. Desmond "Dell" Covington was the lead pastor of Gospel of St Luke Church Inc. and a local activist in the community. Among many things Dell was best known for his work with the youth and forming truces between gangs. He had been married for thirty-three years. His four children are all adults with respectful social statuses. Pulling Dell out of his car authorities and medical examiners discovered that he was shot in the head, throat, and chest. Each bullet that was collected during the autopsy were 7.62mm (0.30 inches), known simply as caliber ammunition. News12 and other news networks flooded the South Drive with reporters, vans, and cameras. One a black bared gate across from 1155 229 Drive South a memorial with red and white candles was set up. For those that knew and loved Dell said that he was known for his love for the colors red and white. These colors were associated with him and his causes. Even his pastoral robe was red and white. He will be truly missed.
Orchard Beach is a sight to behold at night. Stationed on a dock is a yacht. Two men wearing red and white attire with red bandanas are standing guard in front of the yacht. Twenty feet in the air is a quadcopter scanning the weapons, drugs, and other paraphernalia that sits onboard the yacht. A quiet whisper distracts the two men. Before they can react bullets from two silenced pistols strike them dead. A man dressed in all black enters the yacht. Unaware of another man inside the yacht, the man dressed in black dodges being shot four times. The man who shot the gun thinks he had saw a ghost until he was met with a sliced off forearm and a cut to the throat. Blood is all over the floor and all over the man dressed in back. Pulling out a burner phone the man dressed in black makes an important call. To breath some fresh air, Michael slightly pulls up his mask. "B1, how much items are on this yacht?," said Michael. "Twenty cases of guns and twenty cases of fentanyl," said Bruno. "Thanks cadet,' said Michael. Operating the quadcopter, Bruno blinks the lights twice before sending it back to him on the roof of a family-owned business in City Island. "SS, do you have the car ready?," said Michael. "Yes Captain," said Raya. Pulling his mask back down, Michael places two explosives onto the yacht. His feet touching the concrete, Michael pulls out his Android A20, swipes up his home screen, and presses a button. Not even turning around, Michael keeps on walking as the remains of the yacht sink into the water. "That's going to leave a mark," said Michael as he finds an escape route. Raya signals Michael and off they go into the night in an old rusty black Mustang. An hour passed and Michael, Bruno, and Raya are inside of the black rusty Mustang located inside of an abandoned garage. In the air was jokes and the retelling of the event that passed. Raya bought the White Castle and Bruno bought the Hennessy (with the help of a fake ID). It was getting late and Michael felt the responsibility for his two cadets safety. Before he sent them off to their homes, Michael had gifts for them. In one of Michael's pockets was a black plastic bag. Inside of this plastic bag were two medallions. Raya's medallion was a light oak piece of wood with an uncarved design that depicted an orange, green, and blue Queen chess piece. Bruno's medallion was a light oak piece of wood with an uncarved design that depicted an orange, green, and blue human brain with a neutron around it. These medallions meant the world to them. Going back to their homes both Raya and Bruno walk in boldness and confidence.
Inside of a garage of a house that sits across the street from Haffen Park, Sphinx and his cousin Menace are playing a game of chess. Sphinx plays with the black pieces while Meance plays with the white pieces. In the middle of their fourth game Menace had Sphinx down 2-1. "Damn, nigga you a solider for real," said Menace. "You already know cuz," said Sphinx. Meance's turn came and he didn't know what piece to move, eventually deciding to use a pawn. This resulted in Menace taking one of Sphinx's pawns. "Checkmate," said Sphinx. Holding Menace's king by the head, Sphinx smiles quietly. "That makes it tied up right," said Menace. "I guess so," said Sphinx. Menace always played from an offensive end while Sphinx played from a defensive end. "Anything from that shipment?," said Sphinx. "Nah, no word yet," said Menace. Menaces business phone rings and bad news was received. "Shit, shit, shit, I can't believe this shit," said Menace. "What going on cuz?," said Sphinx. "Somebody hit the shipment," said Menace. "Any remains?," said Sphinx. "Nah, the boat's in pieces. And the money, weapons, and product is at the bottom of the sea," said Menace. As Menace continued to curse and fume, Sphinx has a feeling as to who was behind this but decided to hold his tongue and anger.
The clock hits 11:55pm and for a strange reason it felt like it was 9:00pm. Stationed inside of a janitorial closet on the third floor of the Albert Tuitt, Sr. Educational Campus is FBI Agent Malcolm Montgomery. If you ask the students of Bronxwood Preparatory Academy High School Agent Montgomery is a beloved substitute teacher and a likeable guy amongst the BPA staff. On his desk is an assignment given to him by the FBI headquarters in New York City. Opening up the folder in front of him, Agent Montgomery places four pictures on his desk in alphabetical order. The first picture was of Menace. The second picture was of Michael McDowell. The third picture was of Sphinx. The fourth and last picture was of Gabriel McDowell. The Family Ties operation was made known to Agent Montgomery, so seeing Menace and Sphinx didn't surprise him. The McDowell brothers and Agent Montgomery go way back to their time together in high school attending BPA. So seeing the McDowells involved in a government file made Agent Montgomery's eyebrow raise. On the first sight of seeing Michael and Gabriel's pictures, Agent Montgomery jumped out of his seat and spilled some of his coffee unto the floor. For the past eight years, Agent Montgomery's existence in the FBI has been fair. In 2015, Montgomery entered the FBI as a young black man knowing that the relationship between the federal agency and the African American community has never been the best. At twenty-two years old, Montgomery knew he was a token and a pawn in a much broader chess game. The clock was hitting 12:00am and Agent Montgomery still didn't know all of the details as it pertained to the case he was given. "I sure smell a storm coming," said Agent Montgomery as he sipped on his coffee.
Blood at its core goes beyond vertebrates, warfare, passion, and family. Through blood civilizations and nations are born. Through blood sacrifices are made and new life springs fourth. If it wasn't for the blood, sweat, and tears of others we wouldn't be comfortable and at ease as we speak. Human beings are a fallen species. Isms and schisms plague us with every encounter. Love is the only thing that connects us. Whether we want to admit it or not blood has no race, gender, age, political party, or class. Any splash of blood flows red and is a fluid. Nothing more and nothing less. We are one.
