Militia: Chapter 2: Community

On January 10, 2023, the sky was cloudy, and the temperature was below thirty. McCall's Funeral Home was open for business. The family of Tyrone Bigis were the ones being consoled. A traditional open-casket service wasn't being held, but a cremation ceremony. A picture of an innocent six-year-old Tyrone stood on the left and a picture of Tyrone at eighteen as a newly recruited member of the U.S. Marine Corps stood on the right. Placed in the middle was a table that held Tyrone's ashes in an urn. Friends and family went up one by one to share their memories of their beloved Tyrone. The last person to speak was Jackie, Tyrone's aunt and legal guardian during his childhood. Getting up to speak Jackie didn't say much, just thanked everyone for their kind words. In the distance Michael is soaking it all in. Between the laughter, tears, and stories Michael discovers that there was more to Tye than a fiend. People were starting to leave, and Michael made his way towards Jackie. "Excuse me Ms. Bigis", said Michael. "Hello Sir," replied Jackie. "My condolences to you and your family", said Michael. "Oh, thank you darling", replied Jackie. "I must admit that there was more to Tyrone than I thought", said Michael. "Correct, Tyrone was an Honor Roll student and had a dream of rising up the ranks in the Marine Corps", said Jackie. "Where do you think things took a turn?", said Michael. "I would say when he came back home after his first tour. He started hanging out with just anyone. I mean going to parties and clubs. Then came and signs and rest is history", Jackie replied. Intrigued by what Jackie told him Michael was lost for words. Like so many people Michael was being a self-centered hypocrite. He was so busy looking at the disease, but not the person dealing with the disease. A few more words were exchanged before Michael would leave McCall's Funeral Home. Holding Tye's Obituary in one hand, Michael leaves the funeral home satisfied and concealed. Watching Michael leave, Jackie's heart is filled with warmth and her eyes are glowing with admiration.

Michael and Gabriel are both standing among the cadets. Each cadet has their own train of thought and opinion concerning the direction of the leadership of the militia. "I'm hype right now. They tried to off Big Brother Michael. Not retaliating will only give them the opportunity to make another move", said Cleopatra. "Think about it this way. If we find a way to hit them where their weak their chances of coming back will be close to none", said Eddy. "This is chess not checkers. Any ongoing shootouts with the RD's will turn into an all-out war", said Raya. "Plus, the NYPD, on behalf of the 47th Precinct have this area controlled like a concentration camp. You also have to remember the connect that Perez has in the streets", said Bruno. "Attention", yells Gabriel. Understanding what this meant, Michael yells, "All Stand." "Cleopatra and Eddy come forward", said Gabriel. "Raya and Bruno come forward", said Michael. Michael's eyes are piercing through his shades. Not only did Gabriel step out of line by shouting attention, but he also picked an activity for the cadets to as the second-in-command. Gabriel calls his team Side-A. Michael calls his team Side-B. "Come to think of it there's a little ring to it. B-Side it is", said Michael.

A two-sided screen is on display. On the left is Louis Olander. Before he leaves his house in New Rochelle, Olander kisses his wife Julie and says his goodbyes to his son Maximus and his daughter Sophie. Carrying a sports bag with his uniform in it, Olander is wearing a black t-shirt, navy blue jeans, a black and white pair of Vans, topped offed with a brown leather jacket. Starting up his sliver Toyota Camry, Olander pulls down his window to discover Julie watching him from the kitchen window. Using one hand to tip down his shades, Olander in sign language tells Julie, "I love you." Still in love with her husband since the day she laid eyes on him, Julie responses back with her hands in the shape of a heart. Olander drives out of the driveway and off into the distance and is on his way to work. On the right is Anthony "Sphinx" Perez. Inside apartment 2D of 1175 East 229th Street, Sphinx is enjoying the sexual service he paid a least attractive, skinny, darkskin, underage female. For only ten dollars this chick can do something strange for a piece of change. While performing oral sex on Sphinx, Tiny looks up as though she wants to tell him something. Holding Sphinx's penis with both of her hands, Tiny attempts to speak. "Sphinx, I think I'm about to have your baby," said Tiny. "Bitch, what you just say," said Sphinx. "I'm pregnant," said Tiny. "What difference would it make. If it's a boy, he'll be another bastard. If it's girl she'll be ugly with good head and bomb-ass pussy like you," said Sphinx. "What the fuck is your problem Sphinx," said Tiny. "You know what? Get out my fucking face", said Sphinx. Before Tiny can even utter her next set of words she was met with a hard right hook from Sphinx. Grabbing Tiny by her neck, Sphinx opens the door of the apartment and tosses her across to the neighbor's door in front of him. Not soon after, Sphinx takes a shower and brushes his teeth. Putting on his uniform the notorious Sphinx has to switch into Officer Anthony Perez. Leaving his apartment, Perez walks pass Tiny's unconscious body as if she was human waste that one doesn't want on their clothes. Walking down staircase B, Perez is able to leave 1175 East 299th Street and see his way outside quickly. Within the confines of 1165 East 299th Street is PSA 8 (Police Service 8). This is the place where Perez calls work. Olander has parked his car in the lot where the other men in blue park their cars as well. On their way to 1165 (PSA8) both Olander and Perez meet side-by-side. "Good morning Perez," said Olander. "Hello there Olander," said Perez. Perez walks ahead of Olander to avoid his temper from flaring. Olander looks at Perez and says, "go ahead and make my day."

Mary and Hannah are sitting at their kitchen table enjoying their breakfast. Mary made herself banana pancakes, Peppermint tea, with a side of grapes. Hannah, a lover of hearty foods, made herself cheese grits, bacon, two sunny-side-up eggs, with a cup of coffee on the side. Both of these women are blessed. While they both have jobs (Mary being a Nurse's Assistant and Hannah being a manager at a restaurant) they have the privilege to take sick leave as they please. Here they are sitting down eating in their pj's and head wraps, while their men are out working. Although these two are sitting across from each other at the same table, each woman has her own issues. "Sis, you are glowing so bright," said Hannah. "Thanks, so are you," said Mary. "Really girl? But thanks," said Hannah. "Girl we are blessed beyond any measure", said Mary. "To be honest with you, I wish I had what you and Michael had," said Hannah. "You and Gabriel are a match made in heaven. You guys complete each other.", said Mary. "I think Gab needs help. Some time ago I woke up to him playing with a lighter in a rage. It was as if a demon had possessed him. I didn't even want to make a sound", said Hannah. Getting up to fix herself another cup of tea, Mary notices something that Hannah is trying hide. Pretending to reach in back of Hannah to pick a tea packet, Mary pulls back the collar of Hannah's bathrobe. "Sis, what is this shit', said Mary. Fearful and about to have a nervous breakdown, "Nothing, nothing, nothing", said Hannah. "How long has this been going on", said Mary. "For about a month," said Hannah. "Why didn't you tell me or Michael?", said Mary. "I didn't want to bother you two. You know how private me and Gab are", said Hannah. "It doesn't matter Hannah this wrong doesn't make a right", said Mary. "What should I do?", said Hannah. "You have to be Gab's comforter and leash at the same time", said Mary. Hannah with a face full of tears looks into Mary's face as she speaks. "You need to take your rightful place as Queen. "Not one move should get pass you without you noticing", said Mary. Hugs and kisses fill the kitchen as Mary and Hannah finish their breakfast.

Inspector Victor Mazzola is the Commanding Officer of the 47th Precinct. For five years Mazzola has been overseeing the functioning of the 47th Precinct. Throughout his five years, Mazzola has led the charge with an iron fist. Ups and downs, along with attending the funerals of fallen officers comes with the job. Mazzola has become accustomed to using coping methods from keeping himself from going insane or depressed. On his desk is a folder given to him by the Bronx District Attorney's Office located in Concourse Plaza. Examining the first page in the heavy stash of documents, Mazzola sees two mugshots. The first mugshot was of a man in his early thirties. He had a medium husky built. He stood between 5ft,2in to 5ft,5in. His hair was in twist that seemed to be unorganized. His original nationality was Puerto Rician, but according to other sources his family migrated to the U.S. when he was fifteen. As Mazzola is reading this man's information the one thing that stood out to him is the Jigsaw tattoo, he has on his right cheek. The second mugshot was a younger picture of a familiar face that now roams the precinct. It was no other than Anthony Perez, best known on the streets as Sphinx. Come to think of it these two had the same surname, Perez. How were they related and what their connection was still being uncovered. "My Lord," said Mazzola as he keeps turning the pages in the folder.

The clock read five minutes to twelve. Light rain and the night sky caused Seton Falls Park to look like an abandoned immigration center. Westward of the playground a white 4x4 van parks by the near entrance. The vans tinted windows were implanted so a crime could take place in broad daylight without a civilian noticing. Four men in black clothes and face coverings exit the van. Opening the back doors of the van the men drag out what seems to be a man that they had kidnapped and tortured. Naked, beaten, and traumatized the man is continually dragged to the middle of the playground. Stepping out  from the passenger's seat and into the drizzling rain was an unorthodox fellow. He wore a custom made white and red suit. His hair was in twists that were recently done. On his right cheek was a Jigsaw tattoo. Walking towards a former brother-in-arms, the unorthodox fellow pulls the plastic garbage bag off the man's face. "Menace, menace, menace man you know I would never," said Scoop. His eyes closed and his hands wrapped tightly on his chainsaw, Menace is about to say something deep. "My mother was a prostitute. My father was merely a deadbeat. My other siblings came and gone. To give it to you short and sweet people come and go. You're no different than anybody else. Here today but gone tomorrow," said Menace. Starting up the chainsaw, Menace gives the men in black the signal to hold Scoop down on his knees. "Menace let me explain. I'll tell you everything I told the police. Please hear me out," cried Scoop. "Sorry, here today, but gone tomorrow," said Menace. The chainsaw is tossed, causing Scoop's head to tumble ten feet away. Wearing the blood of his recent victim on his suit and face, Menace shows off his sliver teeth with a joyous smile.
