Militia: Chapter 1: Family

On January 1, 2023, the wind blew fiercely, and the night sky made the Edenwald Houses look majestic. Pleading for his life Tye (Tyrone) is dangling from a 14 Storey building. While holding Tye's legs Gabriel yells threats towards him saying, "we told you what would happen if you didn't pay us back our money." Standing near the rooftop's door, Michael is observing the scene that is in front of him. Tampering with the temples of his glasses, Michael makes his way towards a terrified Tye. In a tone of anger and confusion, Michael speaks to Tye saying, "Tye do you have our money?" Trembling with a face full of tears, Tye tells Michael, "No, but it's not my fault. My habit keeps calling me man." Known for his short fuse and bad temper, Gabriel yells, "My mans you need to be offed." Playing the role of the cooler head, Michael steps in. Holding Gabriel's hands steady, Michael yells, "Gab calm down." "You see this is why no one takes us serious, said Gabriel. "The RD's (Righteous Devils) have more territory and more influence than us Gems (Gemstones)." Hesitant Gabriel continues saying " With one more unpaid due from fiends like this one and we'll be on our last knee. Better yet kneecaps." Pulling out a bundle of money, Michael says, "Here, take this for Tye's debt and more." On his last string of patience, Gabriel stares at Michael and tells him, "Nah bro this one's on me." Tussling to see who would get the last say Tye's dingy pants rips, causing neither man to hold a grip on him. In slow motion you can see Tye's body fall from the rooftop and turn into a battered melon as he hit the concrete pavement.

"Whatever's gotten into you I'm going to need you to knock it off Gab," said Michael. "Ain't a damn thing wrong with me Bruh," said Gabriel. "So, what was that shit you just pulled with Tye?" said Michael. "It was a message Mic," Gabriel said in a voice full of rage. "Now you've really lost your mind. That's not what we do. That's not our code", said Michael. "Well, you not going to take me to no precinct," said Gabriel. "No, I'm not going to sell my brother to the system," said Michael. Sitting in the driver's seat, Michael looks at his younger brother Gabriel in the way a father looks at a son. His eyes daggering. Michael looks at Gabriel and says to him "deal." Looking back at Michael feeling agitated, Gabriel responses back by saying, "deal." Driving off in the distance, Shirley Chisholm (an orange, green, and blue Mustang) leaves only dust in her trail. As you just witnessed this is the relationship of Michael and Gabriel McDowell. These two are known as the founders of the Gemstones (or simply called Gems). The militia (not gang) started when Michael and Gabriel were doing security at social gatherings (parties, wedding receptions, wakes, etc.). Close friends and family would call them when they had something coming up than came the talks of dollars and cent, after that the brothers were at your service. Time would past and people took notice and admired them for their service to their community. Calm, cool, and collected, Michael is the brains of the operation, but doesn't mind defending and protecting those he cares about. Not afraid to send a message, Gabriel is the enforcer of the two. With Cleopatra, Raya, Eddy, and Bruno being the newly selected cadets, the future of the Gemstones is looking brighter than the North Star.

A two-sided screenshot is on display. On the left, Michael is deep in prayer and meditation. In the middle of his Jujutsu routine, Michael questions his brother's motives as it regarded dealing with Tye. "Why was I taking a command from my little brother? How in the hell was I lured to that rooftop so easily," Michael thought to himself. Laying in the bed glowing in the sheets, Mary, Michael's fiancé is always amazed at her man's fit physique. On the right, Gabriel is looking into a mirror. In one of his hands, Gabriel is playing with a lighter. Thoughts of jealously, envy, and deceit consume Gabriel. This happens every time he thinks about his brother Michael and the way people look up to him and admire him. Covering herself under the sheets, Hannah, Gabriel's girlfriend, worries about her boyfriend's mental health and well-being. She wants to talk to someone about this ongoing saga but is too scared. Even the bruises on her back proves it to be true. Within this second-floor apartment, inside this three Storey building, that sits in the South Drive one would hope this house can stay a home.

Cleopatra, Raya, Eddy, and Bruno are called for a meeting. All senses of chatter and goofing off disappeared once Michael shows up. For the third time Michael has had to lead a meeting by himself. The only time the cadets see Gabriel is around the way (doing his own thing with whoever). Orange, green, and blue bandanas are tied together and go down the shoulders of Raya and Bruno. Michael has a liking for these two. Raya's multi-dimensional thinking and Bruno's articulation and strategic ways of moving would make these two a great duo. At this thirty-minute meeting, Michael and the cadets go over topics such as The Righteous Devils drug distribution and weapon supply, and how will they deal with Officer Perez. The meeting is finished, and everyone goes on their merry way. Michael is the only one left under a tree sitting at a chess table that sits in back of the Edenwald Community Center.

Leaving the chess table, Michael's sixth sense starts to tinkle. Suddenly, high pitch whistles can be heard all around Michael. Not even a second after Michael decides to shield himself behind a tree a hive of shots is fired. Feeling confidant in their numbers, members of the RD try to surround Michael on both sides, but not without a surprise. The first two men that came around the left and right corners were met with a bullet to the chest and a bullet between the eyes. Discovering an opening between the tree branches, Michael shoots another target in the torso. An RD yells out "aye yo," frantically. Making a quicky move, Michael shoots both of his legs with his twin pistols. Another car of five pulls up and Michael counts ten bullets. Thinking about his next move, Michael is feeling himself when out of nowhere a sniper/stealth weapon is putting in some work on behalf of Michael. Able to spot the location of the operator of the sniper/stealth weapon, Michael discovered that it was his own brother, Gabriel shooting at RD's from the roof of their building.

Eight people are dead on the scene. One person is injured. Michael is found hiding behind the tree. The police pursue Michael for questions and interrogation. In the middle of the current circumstance, Officer Perez barges at Michael like a dog without a leash. Without hesitation Officer Perez took out his handcuffs, about to take Michael into custody. Stepping a couple of feet away, Michael says to Perez, "until I get the right to an attorney I will not be forced to do or say a damn thing." A loud "Ah hem," can be heard in the distance. The present NYPD officers turned around and Gabriel is standing ten toes strong. "Is there a problem officers," said Gabriel. "No problem, Sir. No problem whatsoever," said Officer Olander. That being what it was both Michael and Gabriel beat the system once again. Watching the two brothers walk away, Officer Perez gets so mad that his blood pressure goes up and his heart starts to palpitate. It's funny how not even twenty-four hours into 2023 had not passed and it didn't take the ball dropping in Times Square to draw a crowd of people.
